Video Compression

Video files are huge, so the process of taking edited video (or ripping video from a DVD) and getting it formatted for internet delivery is called compression. The compression process takes an uncompressed file (about 300 MB per minute) and reduces it's size to about 2 MB per minute.

Successful video compression is a trade-off between picture quality and file size. Large file sizes take longer for the viewer to load and cost more money to serve. Poor quality presents a poor image to your customer.

The success of the compression process depends on many factors which include the quality of the source footage, the background of the footage, the content and the target audience. For example, if your video has a person standing in font of a leafy tree on a windy day, or in front of a chain link fence, the required data rate will be roughly 30% to 40% higher to get the same picture quality as the same person well lit in front of a solid, light colored background.

Of course, we would love to shoot your video for the internet, but if you're going to do it yourself and have questions feel free to call and ask.
